Ayurveda Education in India

 

In Ayurveda that is basically the humeral medical system, the diseases are understood like the imbalance between body's three humors called Pitta (catabolic fire energy), Vata (nerve energy), and Kapha (anabolic nutritive energy). The natural minerals and herbs are utilized for making medicines. Apart from the herbs, detoxification and purification, body massages, dietary changes, and meditation are utilized to promote health as well as prevent and take care of the illness. Ayurvedic medicines are swiftly gaining recognition around the world because they do not have any side effects as well as is found of having cures of even unusual ailments.

CCRIMH (Central Council for Research in Indian medicine and Homoeopathy) was recognized in the year 1969 by Government of India for the systematic research of Ayurveda. In 1978, CCRIMH was come apart into four detach councils, one for Unani, one for Ayurveda & Siddha, one for Yoga, and one for Naturopathy & Homoeopathy. The CCRAS (Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha), a sovereign organization made under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and is engaged in the research in different fundamental and applied Ayurveda aspects.

Ayurvedic Education within India is currently monitored by CCIM (Central Council of Indian Medicine) at www.ccimindia.org, a legislative Central Government body. Presently there are around 154 accepted Under-graduate & 33 Post-graduate Ayurvedic Colleges here in India. The 5 ½ year under-graduate programs of Ayurveda lead to the B.A.M.S. (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery). The post-graduate programs are prearranged in branches leading to the Doctorate in Ayurveda.

Eligibility needed to join B.A.M.S. is having Higher Secondary or P.U.C. if possible with Sanskrit or equivalent there or Intermediate [in Ayurvedic group there are PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and Sanskrit) from any recognized Board/University that confirms to specifications accepted by Council. Minimum age to join BAMS is 17 years.

Some institutions also provide certificate courses or the pre-Ayurvedic courses having 1- 2 years. Eligibility required for that course is S.S.L.C. or Matriculation if possible with the Sanskrit or examination equivalent.
